The ancient Sena Gallica (a roman settlement in Senoni Gauls’ land) is famous for the XII centuries’ Fair (of Senigallia or of Magdalene) ,that was one of the most important in Europe. Walls of the XV century surround the town centre. Senigallia’s beach is 12Km long and it is very famous; her tourist port is created from the mouth of the Misa extended by two piers.
Rovere’s fortress is in Duke square (started in 1480 by Pontelli’s and Laurana’s project), its powerful and cylindrical towers with its dungeons are a beautiful example of military architecture. In the same place there are the Duke’s Palace, the Fountain of the Lions (1596) and the Baviera Palace (XIII), now the Town Hall, with its wonderful stucco roofs of Brandani.
In Nanni Street there are Food – Forum with its neoclassic portico, Muzio Oddi Palace (XVII century), now the Town Hall, with the Clock Tower. Near these one, there is Neptune’s Fountain, the symbol of the Town. Pope Pio IX was born in Mastai Palace.
San Martin’s Church has, inside, several and very interesting pictures; in Our Lady’s Church there is a precious crucifix of the XIV century, while the Dome is about of the VIII century.
